Dunia was the platform of choice in the Hackathon on Earth Observation for Sustainable Management of Natural Resources in Africa, organised by the Sahara and Sahel Observatory.
The hackathon took place on the 12th and 13th of December 2023 in Tunis 🇹🇳
The participants had to think out of the box to develop innovative solutions that leverage Earth Observation data to tackle one of the following thematic issues:
A total of 254 people from 34 countries in Africa have registered for the competition.
The criteria that decided about the winners were:
The extent to which the project aligns with current scientific knowledge, addressing pertinent challenges or opportunities within the field.
The uniqueness and originality of the idea or solution presented, showcasing creative thinking and distinctiveness in problem-solving.
Evaluation of the project's systematic and well-structured approach, emphasizing clarity, validity, and efficiency in execution.
The extent to which the project effectively incorporates and leverages Dunia, demonstrating seamless integration and utilization of its functionalities.
Feedback provided to improve Dunia's functionalities or user experience based on the project's interactions or insights gained during the hackathon.
The tangible and measurable results achieved by the project, whether in prototypes, data analysis, or practical implementations.
→ It was a tight race between two teams. Both deserved it to win so we chose two winners 🏆
The winners of the hackathon presented their innovative ideas by showing their notebooks.
These notebooks will be published as example notebooks inside the Dunia Sandbox so that the entire Dunia community can benefit from them.
The feedback for Dunia was great! Minor issues were identified and solved and suggestions were made to add more documentation about Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence support and about the future of processing resource ordering.
In general, the “hackers” learned everything is possible with Dunia if you provide your feedback and start communicating with each other but also with the Dunia team to foster a cooperative community.
We extend a big thank you to:
